April 21, 2024 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
The Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough is inviting the community to sing with them in a special choir experience on the afternoon of April 21st. The event is called HARMONY – A Community Singing Experience. Participants will learn to sing an arrangement of Let Your Love Flow by the Bellamy Brothers. After two hours of practice, the group will perform and a video of the polished piece will later be made available to watch on social media.
Participation requires no prior musical knowledge or expertise. More information and ticket sales are at the Eventbrite link below.
The HARMONY event comes out of a partnership between the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough and the AbZolutely Choir, which meets weekly to learn and perform songs together.
For Sharon Harrison, a Unitarian Fellowship member and volunteer organizer in Peterborough, singing in the AbZolutely Choir is her time to “focus on the elements of coming together with community and enjoying a love of fun and uplifting music.” She has been part of the choir since musical director Abby Zots started leading it two years ago. “I love it because you don’t need to be able to read music. We learn by ear, we do warm-ups together, and we learn about one song every month.”
Every year the choir puts on events, with last year’s concert ticket sales raising money for Kawartha Food Share. On April 21st they will be hosting a different kind of event. “This time, we are trying to sell 200 tickets to benefit the Unitarian Fellowship,” Harrison says. “And instead of watching a concert, we want people to come sing with us.”
This community choir experience will take place at the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough, 775 Weller Street. Tickets cost $25, or $10 for students and people who are underwaged. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/harmony-a-community-singing-experience-tickets-835328890197
