Rise Against the Machine – a night of music by social activists at Jethro’s

June 30, 2024 @ 8:00 pm 10:00 pm

Trent Radio’s Radio from the Stage series, which records and airs live musical performances around Peterborough, continues with Rise Against the Machine on Sunday, June 30 from 8 to 10 p.m. at Jethro’s Bar and Stage.

Featuring Social Activists Beats, Mshkiki Gitigaan Kwe, Garbageface, and special guest Myles Conner, the evening will focus on music with a political edge.

Karol Orzechowski, also known as Garbageface, was originally slated to perform in a live radio drama for one of the previous Radio from the Stage events, but due to conflicts was rescheduled to the June 30 performance. “I saw that it was politically themed, which is great. I don’t mind one bit,” Orzechowski said.

He added that he will play songs from his newest record, Enantiodromia. The title refers to the principle popularized by psychiatrist Carl Jung that there is a tendency for things to slowly shift towards their opposites. “The way I talk about it on the record a lot is the way people sort of drift from being politically conscious to becoming more conservative, from being spiritual to kind of losing faith, or even in the opposite direction from being very closed minded to being open minded,” Orzechowski explained. “I’ve really focused on the idea of what social progress means.”

Admission for the night of social activism-themed musical performance is free, sponsored by the Community Radio Fund of Canada.
