May 25, 2024 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Peterborough songwriter David Tough will join Carson McHone in concert at Take Cover Books at 7 p.m., Saturday May 25.
The intimate evening of performance is part of the Miracle Territory project, which aims to present small all-ages shows in alternative venues around Peterborough.
“These shows are put on by Michael Duguay, who I have known for years and worked with often,” Tough said. “When we met I was in the Silver Hearts and he was in the Unionist Ministers, so objectively I was cooler than him, but at some point that changed.”
Both Tough and McHone will share their own original music at the Miracle Territory event. McHone’s pieces focus on the themes of in-between places and trying to find balance. Tough is a well-known local singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose most recent single featured Serena Ryder and Lewis Melville.
“I’ve done a lot of collaborative work, but this show is my solo songs,” Tough added. “I write pop songs with clever lyrics and elaborate settings. My songs usually have a lot of humour and wit in them, but are also generally sad. Some people enjoy that kind of thing.”
Tough took some time away from performing after the passing of his son, William, in 2022.
“A lot of things have been hard since then, but I couldn’t pick up a musical instrument for the first year after he died without breaking down in tears, let alone sing songs about my feelings in public,” said Tough. “Michael asked me if I wanted to play a Miracle Territory show, and I decided I would not overthink it and just say yes.”
Tickets cost $25, or pay what you can at the door.
