On May 8th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Peterborough locals can connect with non-profit organizations seeking volunteers. The inaugural Meet Your Match Volunteer Fair, presented by Volunteer Peterborough, will have 40 booths set up in the YMCA gymnasium at 123 Aylmer Street. The booths will be staffed by representatives of local agencies in search of volunteers. The event is free to attend.
The volunteer fair is part of an ongoing initiative by Volunteer Peterborough to connect local agencies with people who are aligned with their values, have relevant skills, and are looking for meaningful ways to contribute to the community. More than 1,000 volunteers and 120 organizations have interacted through their website VolunteerPeterborough.ca, but in-person volunteer matchmaking services are also available by appointment with Program Manager Geneviève Ramage at volunteer@volunteerpeterborough.ca
“We’re at a critical crossroads where people are seeking meaningful roles to support the community while charities need new helpers,” says Lois Tuffin, Chair of Volunteer Peterborough’s Steering Committee. “This event aims to introduce more people to organizations they may not know or to open their eyes to how they can make a difference.”
